Andrea Marcucci, 41 years old, is the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Cultural Assets and Activities.

Born in Barga, in the province of Lucca, he is married and has three children.

An entrepreneur who has been involved in politics since 1990, he became provincial councillor for Education and Culture for the Province of Lucca and, at the age of 27, a member of Parliament for the Italian Liberal Party, for which he was also Vice President of the Parliamentary Group in the House of Representatives from 1992 to 1994.

In 1994 he returned to his business activities and held various positions in companies in the pharmaceutical and tourist sectors, continuing his involvement in politics first through the constitution of a local civic movement, and later taking an active part in the new Rinnovamento Italiano party with Lamberto Dini.

In recent years he has been a member of the National Board of Farmindustria and of the Industrial Association of Lucca, as well as representative of the sector at the Chamber of Commerce.

He is a founding partner - and has long been the President - of Società Libera, an association with the aim of free cultural diffusion and the promotion of national and international initiatives including the annual Freedom Award.

In April 2006 he was a candidate for the Senate in Tuscany for Democrazia è Libertà - La Margherita, of which he has been a member since its constitution in 2001, when Rinnovamento Italiano became a part of the new liberal-democratic party under the olive tree symbol.

On being appointed Undersecretary, in full compliance with the Law on conflicts of interests, he resigned from all his posts in businesses and associations.
